Hestercombe Gardens Wedding – Alice & Jonathan
This was my first time as a Hestercombe Gardens wedding photographer and I can’t find enough superlatives to describe this venue in Somerset.
‘Wow! What can we say?! Thank you so much for these incredible photos!! They’ve brought us right back to the moment. We’ve just relived the whole day while looking through these. We are so thrilled with the photos.’ – Alice & Jonathan
Despite being fellow South East Londoners, Alice and Jonathan chose an absolute gem of a venue in the West Country for their wedding and it was a welcome for a London wedding photographer! Hestercombe Gardens has a rich history with records going back as far as 682 from an Anglo Saxon Charter. But what survives now is a magnificently elegant but also understated venue in a mixture of formal gardens and relaxed countryside. As a Hestercombe Gardens wedding photographer my eyes lit up at all of the possibilities that the venue and gardens offer and Alice and Jonathan’s wedding made use of it to perfection.
As a keen gardener and enthusiastic horticulturist, I could could go on for ever about the planting and landscapes and how they effortlessly complement the surrounding countryside. It’s a mix of formal but also lush, dense foliage which has an almost exotic feel. Having done a bit of research I wasn’t surprised to find out the Gertrude Jekyll was responsible for the planting scheme in the formal garden that was commissioned in 1903.
But I digress, back to the wedding! Alice and Jonathan chose the Orangery for their ceremony which leads out seamlessly to lawns for the confetti and reception. Although the main parts of the day were all inside, at Hestercombe Gardens you are always moments from being in a beautiful outside space. Alice and Jonathan’s wedding took full advantage of this as guests mingled inside and out. It was the kind of wedding that I didn’t want to end and I can’t wait to get back for another a wedding.
